The Rolex GMT-Master II Reference 116710BLNR is a highly iconic and now-discontinued modern classic, affectionately nicknamed the “Batman” for its distinctive blue and black bezel. Introduced in 2013, it was the first Rolex watch to feature a two-tone ceramic Cerachrom bezel, a significant technical achievement.
The watch is constructed entirely from Oystersteel (904L stainless steel), which is highly resistant to corrosion and provides exceptional strength. It maintains the universally popular and robust 40 mm case diameter (Source 1.5, 3.5).
The watch features the classic Oyster architecture, with a monobloc middle case, screw-down case back, and the Triplock winding crown. Its robust construction ensures professional water resistance up to 100 metres (330 feet) (Source 1.5).
The case is crowned by the highly functional, bidirectional rotatable 24-hour graduated bezel. The insert is made from two-colour blue and black Cerachrom (ceramic), where the blue section represents the daytime hours (6 am to 6 pm) and the black represents the nighttime hours (6 pm to 6 am). The engraved numerals are coated in a thin layer of platinum (Source 3.1, 3.2).
The timepiece is fitted exclusively with the robust and sporty Oyster bracelet (flat three-piece links) in satin-finished Oystersteel with highly polished centre links. This bracelet is secured by the folding Oysterlock safety clasp, which features the patented Easylink 5 mm comfort extension link (Source 1.2, 3.3).

The centerpiece is the highly legible Black Lacquer Dial, featuring oversized hands and hour markers – known as the “Maxi Dial.” The hour markers are simple geometric shapes (triangles, circles, rectangles) crafted from 18K White Gold and filled with Chromalight luminescent material, emitting a long-lasting blue glow (Source 1.4, 2.4). The unique, arrow-tipped GMT hand is finished in blue, matching the day half of the bezel.
The display features the conventional hour, minute, and seconds hands, a 24-hour GMT hand, and the instantaneous date at 3 o’clock, magnified beneath the Cyclops lens. The hour hand can be adjusted independently of the GMT hand, allowing the traveller to quickly set the local time without losing the reference time (Source 1.4, 3.3).
Under the dial lies the reliable Calibre 3186 movement. This self-winding mechanical movement (preceding the Calibre 3285) is equipped with a blue Parachrom hairspring and Paraflex shock absorbers, ensuring excellent resistance to shocks and temperature variations. It is certified as a Superlative Chronometer, guaranteeing exceptional precision of +/- 2 seconds per day.
